There's something unusual in the Interior of B.C. That's where amateur astronomer Jack Newton and his wife have built their very own observatory. The best part is that they also run a B&B. When you stay there, they let you go up into the observatory and see the stars. . . close up! When we were there, Jack took us up during the day and we actually saw sun flares. Very cool. (collapse)

On one of our many trips to Port Renfrew, my husband and I finally decided to see what Botanical Beach Provincial Park was all about. Wow! Were we amazed at the cool tide pools and beautiful beach there. It's quite different from the rest of the coast leading up to Port Renfrew because the water has sculpted the rock into beautiful formations that you just don't see that often. We spent hours there, exploring the beach. (collapse)

There are many wonderful islands to experience in the Strait of Georgia. I like to start near Sidney and head over to Saturna, then meander by Mayne, Pender, Saltspring, and Galiano. I keep slowly putting along northward until I get to Lasqueti, where I like to anchor for the night in False Bay. Next day, I head to Campbell River where I can either keep exploring or head back home. The possibilities are endless! (collapse)

This year I plan to take my family to Desolation Sound Marine Provincial Park for the first time in our sailboat. I want to explore it as much as possible, by visiting different bays, going on kayak trips, hiking surrounding mountains. Since the water is supposed to be quite warm there, I also plan to do some scuba diving and snorkelling. Hopefully I will catch some fish there as well. It is going to be a very exciting trip with my family without even leaving the province. (collapse)

One of my favourite things to do in B.C. is visit Point No Point Resort. This is a place to go to for a romantic getaway or just to get away. Trails to wander, some bird watching, maybe see some whales or dolphins. Sit in front of the fireplace and look out at the ocean, read a book, or just enjoy the company you’re with. But there is still more to do. Put on your swimsuit, grab your robe and drink, and head out to the deck and enjoy some time in your private hot tub. Now that is a treat; you can watch and hear the waves crashing on the rocks below, watch the eagles or Steller’s jays fly by. For two days of bliss, this is the place I enjoy. Check out the Point No Point website for more information (www.pointnopointresort.com). (collapse)
